Twinsie Tuesday- Inspired by Your Hometown

Nothing to Disclose
Happy Twinsie Tuesday lovelies! I am truly on the countdown now! Two days until graduation! Yay! Excited doesn't even begin to describe the feelings I have right now. Anyway, the Twinsies are bringing you manciures inspired by our hometowns. I am a Southern girl and was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. To be honest, there isn't really that much that excites me about the city, so finding a source of inspiration was somewhat difficult. I went waaaaaay back to my high school. William Marion Raines Senior High. Yes, yes, and yes!!!! This school was pivotal in the community that I grew up in and anyone who knows anything about Raines can attest to the meaning of 'Viking Pride!' Unfortunately, the school has experienced some really rough times in the past decade or so and things aren't the same. Regardless, I love my school and the rich tradition that comes along with it.

Our school colors were Cardinal Red and Silver Grey. Yes...those are the official names. There was also a third accent color that was sometimes used in our sports uniforms and other things. The accent color is Royal Blue. I incorporated each of these colors into today's manicure using Enchanted Polish Mr. Burgundy (burgundy) and Presto Magic (blue) and Cirque Colors Sani (silver).

Each of these polishes had flawless application. I used Nail vinyls to create the 'V' accent nail. I decided to add the accent blue in a small amount, since that's how it was always used. I think the manicure came together well! If you can't tell, this is inspired by the tape and dot manis that Lakeisha is so great at doing!

I'm really curious to see what the other Twinsies created based on their hometowns. Click the links below to find out!

Polish Addict Nail Color Spring Collection Part I Review- Part I

Press Sample
Happy Monday Polished Babes! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I am now only 3 days away from my graduation and I am still super busy. Today is the last "official" day of classes....thank YOU Lord!! Now I have to focus on getting my hair done and figuring out a manicure for both days. Any suggestions?

Today's review is of some of the polishes from Part I of Polish Addict Nail Colors Spring Collection. Laura is already set to release Part II on Wednesday, but USPS just refuses to get my packages to me on time. Let's get this party started....

Spring Equinox is a coral based polish with gold and green flakies, silver holo circles, and iridescent glitters. This one has somewhat of a pearly type of finish. The formula was rather sheer and somewhat streaky when applying. Three coats were used with topcoat. This is a really dainty looking polish, that is sure to make you feel super feminine.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a champagne colored base with multiple shapes of gold glitters, includig stars. This one was also sheer and streaky when applying. I used three coats and topcoat for these photos. If you're a neutral lover, this one may be for you. Unfortunately, this color isn't very flattering on my complexion.

In Bloom is a pale mint green crelly base with pink, lavender, green, and white glitters of varying sizes. There are also lavender flowers as well. I used three thin coats and topcoat for these photos. Application was super smooth and easy. The glitters spread nice and evenly across the nail. I really like the look of this one and it definitely depicts spring in a good way.

April Showers is a muted blue crelly with greyish undertones. It is loaded with royal blue, light blue, and gold hexes, as well as, metallic purple square glitters. You may recall my showing the protoype of this one a few weeks ago. There were some slight changes, but the final result is absolutely beautiful. I used three thin coats and topcoat. Two coats would be just fine, if your nails are shorter. There were no issues with the formula or application of this one.

May Flowers (of course!) is a glitter topper loaded with holo microglitters, green, blue, teal, purple, and white glitters of varying sizes and shapes. There are also lavender flowers included in this one. I really like this mixture of glitters! It is really pretty and the very sparse addition of the flowers makes it really special without being overwhelming. I used one coat over a black creme and there were no applications issues. I did strategically place the flowers on the nail, but there was no fishing needed.

After the Rain (LE) is a beautiful blue holo with multiple colored flakies and microglitters. I used two coats and topcoat for these pictures. There were no application issues and it did not stain upon removal. I love how you can see the different color glitters shining through the holo base. This polish is the monthly limited edition and will be gone soon. You can receive a free bottle with a $50 purchase.

BAZINGA presented with The Nail Challenge Collaborative

Nothing to Disclose
Happy Sunday Polished Babes! Today I have another installment of April's Music/TV/Movies theme for the Nail Challenge Collaborative. For this post, I decided to go with another television show. Perhaps, my favorite sitcom at the moment. If you haven't guessed already, I am talking about The Big Bang Theory. OMG...this show has easily become a favorite for me and my hubby in such a short time. We always DVR the new episodes and watch them together at a later time. Either way....these characters all crack us up for their own unique reasons.

I have two words for you...Sheldon Cooper. Oh Sheldon, Sheldon, Sheldon. He is literally the most socially awkward and stereotypically nerdy person I have ever seen! One of Sheldon's catch phrases is BAZINGA! He uses it as his attempt on a joke or a sort of "sike...I got ya" type of thing.
Pic Uploaded from FanShare.com
The polish I chose is called BAZINGA and was released last year in The Big Bang Theory Collection by Dollish Polish. BAZINGA has large black circles, white rectangles, black bars, red hexes, and red squares in a lightly tinted yellowish base. The formula was pretty thick, making a smooth and even application of the glitters quite difficult. Since that is the case, I dabbed one coat over Zoya Mitzi, which is a lime green creme with a matte finish. AS you can see here, the yellowish tint from BAZINGA was enough to make Mitzi appear yellow. I added B Squared Lacquer's Shine B-Right Topcoat.

For the accent nail, I attempted to create the famous lightening bolt that has become symbolic of Sheldon's attire. You can see it in his shirt above. I attempted to freehand this bolt, so it is not that good at all. Oh well..I tried. I really did.

There you have it... BAZINGA! Check out the thumbnails below to see the manis some of the other ladies have created for this theme.

Jior Couture Zodiac Collection Review

Press Sample
Happy Saturday!  To say I have had a horrible few weeks is an understatement. Ugh...I'm so over everything right now. Anyway, I don't want to bring you down with my misery. I have a review of a new collection from indie brand Jior Couture today. The Zodiac Collection consists of holographic thermal polishes in various shades. I was sent four polishes to review, three are holo thermals and the other is a glow-in-the-dark (GITD) jelly. Let's get started...

Celestial has a cobalt blue jelly base with holographic star, crescent, and circle glitters. Since this is a jelly polish, it is expected that the formula is sheer and buildable. However, after three coats the polish remained rather sheer and you can see my nail line through the base. This may not be an issue for people with shorter nails, but with my nails at this current length, it didn't provide the coverage that is appealing to me. The formula was good and no topcoat was used. There was no staining upon removal.

Celestial also glows in the dark or under a black light. To get the glow to appear, I charged my nails for a few minutes by holding my fingers up to my lamp. The glow was rather apparent at this point.

Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac and is represented by the goat. According to the maker, this polish is a brown based jelly holographic thermal polish that transitions from brown to a beige tone. Again, since this is a jelly based polish, it was rather sheer. I used four coats for even coverage and it was almost completely opaque. The formula was good and the holo on this one is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any transitions of the colors to what is provided in the description. This isn't for lack of effort either. I held my hands under cold water, warm water, hot water, stuck my hands in the freezer, and dipped them in ice. I was only able to notice a slight shift from brown to a darker brown. It actually doesn't bother me at all because I love this beauty just as it is!
Warm
Cold
Aquarius, the water bearer, is the eleventh sign of the zodiac. According to the maker, this polish is an aqua blue to blue holographic thermal polish. I used four coats and the polish was still rather sheer on my nails. Again, this may be a better suit for someone with shorter nails, as this left more VNL (visible nail line) than I desire in my polishes. The scattered holo finish of this polish was absolutely beautiful. Like Capricorn, I had major difficulties getting any transition in this one. I had a really hard time noticing if there were any changes, if so, they were very slight. Also, this one had no staining upon removal. We know how those blue based polishes can be!
Warm

Cold
Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac and is represented by the mighty scorpion. Although I am not really into the zodiac beliefs, I must say that many of the characteristics attributed to being a Scorpio are spot on for me! Haha! Intense, driven, passionate, and hot! <seriously don't make that face!> Anyway, back to the polish. Scorpio is described by the maker as a black to grey holo thermal. Again, I failed at really getting any type true of transition from this polish, but it is truly beautiful without it. The holographic scattered rainbow is so lovely!!
Warm
Cold
Overall, I think the concept of this collection is really great. Unfortunately, my experience with these polishes wasn't. Again, some of the issues I had with the sheerness and VNL are expected with jelly based polishes. If my nails were shorter, I may have enjoyed the look of these more. The issue with the lack of transitioning with the thermals is the major problem I had. After trying everything that I normally do when reviewing thermals, I was unable to get any transitions. Fortunately, I have seen swatches from others, where the thermal transitions were quite apparent. Either way, I am left somewhat baffled at why they didn't work for me. <insert sad face here> Aside from these issues, all of the polishes are really beautiful colors. Hopefully, the thermal effect will be more cooperative with others.

This collection will be available for purchase in the Jior Couture online shop. Be sure to follow the brand on Facebook and Instagram for updates on the launch date and time.

Have a great day!

B Squared Lacquer's Spring Creme Collection Review

Press Sample
Happy Saturday Polished Babes!! I have another awesome collection from B Squared Lacquer to share with you today. The Spring Creme Collection consists of six creme polishes in super pretty pastel colors. I also have two new topcoats to show you. One is a holographic topcoat and the other is a black and white glitter topper. All polishes appear with Shine B-Right Topcoat unless stated otherwise.

First up is a pastel yellow creme called Bees Knees.  Hehe... such a cute name! I used three coats for a smooth and even finish. The first coat was somewhat patchy, but not a major problem at all. My 2-year-old daughter's favorite color is yellow, so this will definitely be used for one of her upcoming manis and pedis.

Funny Bunny is the pink of the collection. This is one that appeared to have more of a crelly type of formula versus that of a true creme. Since that is the case, I needed three coats, as it was pretty sheer upon the first coat. This one was difficult to accurately capture, but I promise I did my best. I found this pink very flattering on my complexion.

Rain Boots is a pastel blue creme. I used two medium coats for even coverage. The formula on this one was pretty good. Blues like this one always have a place in my collection!

Fuzzy Navel is a pastel peachy creme polish. I really LOVE everything about this color! This was another with more of a crelly formula, so three coats were used for even coverage. Although sheer upon the first coat, the formula was fantastic.

Sprout is a pastel green with that pistachio type of tone that is so popular for the spring season. The first coat was somewhat patchy and tricky; however, it leveled out well and ended up being one of my favorites of the collection!

Lastly, I have Viola, a pastel purple creme. This one required two coats and is shown without topcoat. One thing I noticed is that the color seems to darken when topcoats are added. Either way, this color is absolutely adorable. The formula was great...really smooth and easy to apply. This is purple, so of course I LOVE it!

Rainbow Distraction is a holographic topcoat. I used it here over a skittle mani with some of the cremes from the collection. It is shown with one coat over the creme and no topcoat. I think this is a really good holo topcoat, as it doesn't grey out the polish and it has a very pleasing holo effect. It isn't super strong, but it definitely makes a statement.

Domino Effect is a black and white glitter topper. It has white triangles, black circles, and smaller pieces of black and white glitters. The glitter is really dense, so not many coats are needed to get a lot of glitter onto the nail. I used one coat over a skittle mani of some of the Spring Cremes and it is really cute! I've been seeing so many triangle glitter polishes released lately, but this is the only one that caught my interest.

Two coats of Domino Effect over Viola.

Here is is one coat over Fuzzy Navel.

I feel like I'm repeating myself every time I review this brand, but I can't help it. Mia has released another really cute and high quality collection of nail polishes. I am happy to see such beautiful pastel cremes for the spring season. Hopefully Mia will bless us with more beautiful creme collections for each season.

These polishes will be available for preorder starting today, Saturday April 19th at 3PM CDT. The preorders will begin shipping the week of April 28th. The official launch is scheduled for May 3rd at 3PM CDT, so don't fret if you are unable to snag them up today. B Squared Lacquer offers polishes in full size (15ml) and minis (8ml) for your convenience. Please click HERE to go straight to the online store.

Be sure to follow the brand on social media: Facebook. Instagram, and Pinterest.

Toodles!

Some Like it Hot presented with The Nail Challenge Collaborative

Press Sample
Hi there polished babes! I have a beautiful polish to show you called Some Like it Hot by Polish Addict Nail Color (PANC). Additionally, today is my first post as a new member of a wonderful group of bloggers called The Nail Polish Collaborative. This group of talented ladies have teamed up to bring you monthly themed manicures. Unlike my the Twinsie Tuesday Group, where we post every Tuesday, this group allows the flexibility to post on the theme at any point within the month. This month's theme is for music, movies, and television. I was added to the group last week, so I have so catching up to do for this month!

I have chosen to do my post based on television. Anyone who knows me is aware that I have a very limited range of shows I actually watch. In fact, my television is tuned in to CNN for the better part of each day. Haha! I'm pretty sure that's weird, but I love it. No matter how redundant, I can watch it all day! Drives my husband nuts! Hehe! Anyway, I chose to use one of my favorite shows of all time...The Golden Girls. I just LOVE that show and I fall asleep watching it every night.
Crones before their time: The Golden Girls aired on NBC from 1985-1992.
I chose to use this beautiful polish I was sent to review by PANC called Some Like it Hot. If you know anything about the Golden Girls, you may know where I am going with this. Some Like it Hot is an orange based red polish with fine shimmer. The polish dries to a lovely matte finish. I used two easy coats and the formula was perfection!

Here she is with topcoat added. I love how the shimmer pops!

If you haven't guessed already, this polish was chosen to represent Blanche! Oh Blanche...sigh...she was a HOT mess wasn't she?! She definitely liked it hot and thought she was the hottest thing in Miami. I chose this color because of the name and the bright and bold color.
Polish-Addict-Nail-Color-Some-Like-It-Hot

I decided to add some studs to spice up the mani. I'm pretty sure Blanche was always ready to show off all of her "assets" whenever possible. The flashier, the better. I added one full nail of rhinestones to my ring finger and then placed a single rhinestone on each of the others. Yep...this is definitely reminiscent of Blanche!

Have you ever watched the Golden Girls? If not, what's your all time favorite television series? I found this site with several Blanche-isms! LOL...she was a mess!
