Hello lovelies! It's Tuesday, so you know what that means! Today is another Twinsie Tuesday post. If you missed out on the exciting news and have no clue what I am referring to, please CLICK HERE. Today's prompt tasked us with creating a manicure inspired by a family member. For this mani, I chose my dear husband. Why? Well...why not? Not only is he a great husband, but he is an AMAZING father to our children. He is also my best friend, a great provider, and my biggest supporter in everything I do. He has sacrificed so much to ensure that I can pursue my dreams. He took on being the sole provider for our family, which allowed me to be a stay-at-home mother to our daughter for the entire first year of her life. Furthermore, during this time, he was instrumental in my earning my first masters degree (in criminology) and going on to get the second one (MSW...I graduate in May). I could go on for days about this man, but I will only give you this short synopsis of why he has my heart and always will. I cannot even begin to thank him enough for his love and support. I thank God everyday for creating him just for me.
Today's mani is in his honor and I chose to use his favorite colors...black and gold. Yeah, these seem like pretty standard colors, but they are extremely significant to him. My husband is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and he has been for the past 18 years. He pledged during the Spring 1996 semester at his school in Pennsylvania. I didn't go too far out on the design for this mani, as he is not the biggest fan of nail art, accent nails, and anything remotely appealing to us nail freaks!
To create this look, I started with two coats of OPI's 4 In the Morning, which is a rich black satin polish from the new Gwen Stefani collection. I then added the single chevron nail vinyls and used OPI's Love.Angel.Music.Baby, a gold satin matte polish and removed the vinyl stickers. This gave me the crisp lines for my chevrons. I ended with some simple dots on the index and pinky fingers, just enough to tie all the colors together. I used HK Girl topcoat by Glisten and Glow for the glossy finish.
I absolutely love this mani! The only regret I have is needing to use topcoat for the designs, which took away from the satin finishes of the polishes. Oh well...I still love it!
What do you think about this mani? Have you ever created a manicure inspired by a family member?
