31DC2013 Day 18: Half Moons

Hello all!!! Today's challenge post was a newbie for me! I have NEVER done a half moon mani....EVER. This mani was really fun and I enjoyed the outcome. In the future, I hope to be able to add more designs to the half moons. You know what I mean...maybe some stripes, stamps, glitter. We will see how that goes. Anyway, continue reading for details on how I achieved this look.

I started with a base using 3 coats of OPI Lucerne-Tainly Look Marvelous, a dark gunmetal foil polish, It was more sheer than I expected, but the 3 coats were totally worth the effort. I added HK Girl Topcoat and allowed to completely dry before moving to the next step.

To add the half moons, I purchased reinforcement stickers from the stationary section in Wal-Mart. Here they are.

Once the base color was completely dry, I applied the reinforcement sticker to the base of my nail. Be sure it is completely adhering to the entire nail, to ensure a crisp edge and no blending of the colors. I completely forgot to photograph this step...SORRY! After this was done, I applied Sinful Shine Dark Room to the top of the nail and slightly overlapping the reinforcement sticker. I peeled the sticker off in the direction of the circle, while the black polish was still wet. I did each nail individually, to prevent any drying of the polish while completing them all.. Once done, I added topcoat to each nail.

The last step was to spruce it up a tad! I added 4 round silver studs from Pueen Cosmetics to the outline of the half moon on my ring finger. I added topcoat to seal the studs onto the nail.

TA-DA!!! What do you think? I am really happy with the outcome, especially since this was my first try. As I stated earlier, I look forward to attempting half moons again and adding more creativity. Have you ever done this type of nail art? What colors did you use?
